The vision for Godsbanearealet in Aalborg is to transform the abandoned landscape of the old railway goods yard into a sustainable green part of the city, which takes its starting point in the sturdy structure of the railway terrain. This way a transition is created between the old medieval town and the suburb.
Godsbanearealet both encompasses a masterplan and recreational areas with a focus on climate adaption. The open spaces are turned into a recreational landscape, which, apart from being beautiful, also will handle future downpour challenges. The goal is to manage as large volumes of water as possible locally by establishing green roofs, and by percolation and storage in waterbeds and basins.
